Securing the Gable Edge in Kildare

A Stain on the Ceiling in Crettyard

Competitive Roofing, a family-run roofing company based in County Carlow, covers roof repairs in Crettyard and across Leinster. A brown ceiling stain usually means water is getting in through a tile, valley, flashing or flat roof covering above, so the roof is checked before the ceiling is repaired.

Can a damp ceiling be fixed from inside the house?

More often than not, yes. Tiles, flashing, valleys and flat roof coverings are where ceiling leaks usually come from. Pipework or condensation can leave a similar mark, so check above before painting over it.

Only cosmetically; the cause is still on the roof. With Competitive Roofing, the roof is repaired first and advice on the ceiling follows. Let the plaster dry out fully before any redecorating.

Do roofers do gutter repairs?

Many do, because gutters are part of the roof's drainage and faults at the eaves often involve both. Competitive Roofing carries out gutter repairs for leaks, sagging and blockages, and replaces whole systems.

Which counties does the roofing cover reach?

Competitive Roofing works right across Leinster: Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Meath, Louth, Westmeath and Longford. Waterford is on its list too. That takes in Crettyard, along with Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois and Kildare.

The business builders in Waterford address is at Monteen, Crettyard, in County Carlow, on the edge of Carlow where it borders Laois and Kilkenny. Being family-run, the people you speak to are the people on the roof.

How do you repair a flat roof?

The damaged area is cleaned and dried, the fault is cut back to sound material, and a new layer is bonded over it and sealed at the edges. If the deck underneath is wet or soft, it is replaced before any new covering goes on.

How is restoration different from a new roof?

Renewing the parts of a roof that have failed and keeping the rest. Typically that means replacing broken and slipped tiles, repointing ridges, and dealing with valleys, verges and flashings. Roof restoration is on the Competitive Roofing service list.

Frequently, provided what lies under the tiles is still sound. If they are not, restoring the surface only hides the problem for a while. An inspection is what tells the two apart.
